Youth Services Subcommittee
|
|
The Youth Services/Programs Subcommittee provides input and guidance on academic, enrichment and recreational youth programs provided by EUSD, the Emeryville Recreation Department and the Emeryville Child Development Center. The subcommittee works to integrate school programs with the broad range of program opportunities in the community. The subcommittee assists with the review of program opportunities identified in the Education and Youth Services Master Plan as well as the program enhancements proposed by EUSD. They also provide input on the development of incentives for attracting and retaining high quality teachers. The Youth Services/Programs Subcommittee is chaired by School Board Member Forrest Gee. The Youth Services/Programs Subcommittee began its work by compiling and updating a comprehensive listing of current programs offered to youth in Emeryville, as well as a list of the most critical needs. They also brainstormed information needed to help in setting priorities and designing programs for the future. Following this initial work, the subcommittee developed and administered a teacher survey. The information gathered from this survey will assist the subcommittee with program design and with efforts to attract and retain quality teachers. The subcommittee also completed a parent survey and began parent focus group meetings to gather information to help with program design. The subcommittee researched model programs in the Bay Area to learn from these successful efforts. They visited Anthony Chabot Elementary School (Oakland), the San Francisco Community School and the Ascend School (Oakland). They also visited the Fremont Family Services Center to research mental health and family support service program models. |
